Trust and reputation aren’t a given. They’re earned, step by step. That’s how we became trusted leaders in extruded aluminium columns in the UK.
Importantly, we have built our trust and reputation on consistent quality and service, and this is strengthened by the support of our partners.
Partnerships That Endure
Over the past 30 years, we’ve built the trust and reputation that put ALC products at the heart of vital national infrastructure.
From public transport to military facilities, we do not take this responsibility lightly. Therefore, quality and service remain our primary focus after 30 years in business.

We were pioneers in introducing extruded aluminium columns in the UK. At first, building a reputation was difficult.
To establish this, we worked with Nedal Aluminium B.V., a trusted partner with a proven record across Europe, to build our credibility and open up the market.

Commencing production in 1938 trading as ‘NV Aluminum Rolling and Pressing Companies (AWEP)’, Nedal produced their first columns in 1949.
Because of this legacy, ALC could demonstrate the virtues of the product, engage the industry, and gain traction in those early years.
Nedal’s legacy reassured many local authorities. As a result, we gained our first substantial customers such as Merthyr Tydfil Council who remain clients to this day.
That decision hinged not only on adopting innovative products, but also on the confidence they drew from proven European experience.

Their continued engagement testifies to the durability of those first installations 20–30 years ago, and to the benefit of those fruitful relationships that have grown alongside.
As a result of this continuity – from early adoption through to ongoing collaboration – ALC’s reputation has grown as a dependable partner in public infrastructure.
Consequently, we built on these initial successes and expanded our reach, taking on longer-term commitments such as Blackpool’s 25-year streetlighting PFI.
Extruded Aluminium Columns & ALC – Proof in Projects
Commencing in 2010, the Blackpool 25-year streetlighting PFI involved the upgrade and operation of over 16,000 streetlights.
The Community Lighting Partnership leads the project, which remains live today, and we continue to support subcontractor E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions.

For more than 15 years, E.ON has relied on us not only for products but also for technical checks whenever contractors propose new equipment for our columns.
We provide quick, accurate guidance using our detailed records.

Yet this practice isn’t unique to Blackpool; it’s how we operate across all our projects.
“With the assurance that ALC’s Design & Technical Team are taking care of our lighting requirements, we can turn our attention fully to completing the projects at hand safely and to budget”

We give clients confidence by retaining detailed records and keeping quality, diligence and safety as core pillars of our operations.
Local Authorities – Reactiveness: Supply & Service
In addition to larger projects, consistency and diligence matter on a local level.
However, local authorities and their contractors also require reactiveness and availability of product to deliver for their constituents and clients respectively.

We settle that demand with a dedicated external sales/support team, thousands of columns in stock and a suite of design, fabrication and painting facilities.
This means we’re built to provide choice and deliver at speed. Our investment in customers’ needs simply outpaces anything our competitors offer.

Confidence for the Future of Extruded Aluminium Columns
The past three decades have demonstrated that trust is earned through consistency, resilience, and delivery. That legacy forms the foundation for our future.
Our core principles of innovation, quality, responsiveness, and reliability are and will always remain at the heart of what we do.

“At ALC, we put quality and service first. Our clients trust us because we build solutions that last, not shortcuts that don’t.”
Craig Williams, ALC Managing Director
As the demands on infrastructure evolve, we are already shaping smarter, safer, and more sustainable solutions.

From refining designs and materials to adopting processes that anticipate future needs, we continue to improve and build on our credibility.
